Group Study Exchange Program
In the last decade The Rotary Club of Sunriver has sponsored GSE team members to Turkey, the Dominican Republic, and Brazil.
Since 1965, the Group Study Exchange program, through The Rotary Foundation, has provided grants for countless teams of men and women in the early stages of their business and professional careers to travel abroad. Teams – a Rotarian team leader and 4 non-Rotarian team members – spend four to six weeks studying the host country’s institutions, economy and culture, while observing how their own professions are practiced abroad. Annually District 5110 exchanges one to two GSE teams with Districts in other countries. The team members stay in Rotarian homes throughout the District hosting them. The Rotary Foundation grant funds round-trip air transportation for the team members. Rotarians provide lodging in their homes, meals and group travel, allowing the opportunity for participants to become acquainted with the customs and culture of the people in their host District, as well as share vocational information with the representatives of their respective professions in another country.
Among the eligibility requirements: Applicants must be employed full-time, with a minimum of two years experience in a recognized business or profession; be between the ages of 25-40; and not be related in any way to a Rotarian. Applications for GSE exchanges for the Rotary year are usually available in early July. For more information on District 5110 GSE go to http://www.district5110.org/gse/download.htm.
