Roy Werner Scholarship
Overview of scholarship/description:
This scholarship is in memory of Roy Werner, a former Rotarian who greatly valued service to the community. Service comes in many different forms: community, church, school and work all are equally important. The scholarship value is $1,500.
Requirements for submission (essay, GPA, etc)
There is no GPA requirement, instead, this scholarship will be awarded based on your service to the community, whether church, school or other. All applicants are required to submit a typed overview of all community service, limited to 2 pages or under. Please include how the scholarship will help you continue your education, as well as your name, phone number, email and your intended plans to further your education.
Who can apply?
Any student attending Upper St. Clair, Bethel Park or Seton LaSalle high school who plans on furthering their education beyond high school, including 2- or 4-year College degrees, trade school, business or arts school all qualify.
What is the review process? By Whom?
The Werner family will review all essays and select one winner from all applicants.
How many scholarships will be awarded? And to which schools?
One student from all applicants will be selected by the Werner family, for a total of one (1).
What is the deadline for Submission?
Applications will begin being accepted starting in April & must be received no later than May 3rd.
Who do I submit the application to?
The applications should be submitted to the guidance department of your respective school. The guidance department will then forward applications to Bill Findle, Committee Chair for the Upper St. Clair-Bethel Park Rotary Breakfast Club, who will then submit all applications to the Werner family for review and selection.
How & When will I be notification if selected?
The winner will be contacted by Mid-May via phone call/email.
Terms of acceptance, if any: used by?
The winner will need to attend a Rotary meeting to accept the award. We meet at 7am each Tuesday morning at the Porch Restaurant at Sienna. A date will be picked to accommodate your schedule. The scholarship must be used for continuing education as defined as 2- or 4-year College degrees, trade school, business or arts school.
