Human Trafficking
The Human Trafficking Committee was formed in 2018 to raise awareness of the problem in our region, provide schools with education material about the signs of trafficking and how to prevent it, provide assistance to victims and survivors, and help keep vulnerable people safe.
Our efforts include an annual fundraiser, Shine a Light on Human Trafficking, which has provided funding for media outreach, survivor support, and bringing the PROTECT program to local school districts. We also have placed stickers with the Trafficking Hotline number in restrooms of local mini marts and the Tri-Cities Airport. With the local Soroptimists, we have hosted public events at our Event Center featuring panel discussion and talks by survivors.
We are working with Catholic Family Services to provide furniture and supplies to foster children who are aging out of the system; with the Juvenile Justice Center to mentor and provide goodie bags to the youth incarcerated there; and with the Support, Advocacy, and Resource Center (SARC) to support victims and find opportunities to mentor youth through other agencies.
