ABOUT THE EDMONDS JAZZ CONNECTION
The Edmonds Jazz Connection is a full-out jazz festival, with all the fun, music and excitement that jazz lovers have come to expect, but with an emphasis on showcasing talented youth musicians, and supporting local music education programs. It is held every year in May in the heart of downtown Edmonds.
THE PROGRAM
- From 9:00 AM until ~4:30 PM the Jazz Connection features three concurrent performance venues, with big bands playing at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, choral jazz at the Holy Rosary Church, and the smaller combos will perform at the Edmonds Theater. Participation is by audition and invitation.
- As an added feature in 2017, the ECA will feature a special performance the same evening by John Pizzarelli and Ann Hampton Callaway!
- All told, we will have over 20 groups from mainly Snohomish and King County, and also a few select regional schools come to perform, although we are always happy when schools from outside the area accept our invitation to appear as well.
- Coming as it does at the end of the school year, the student musicians are at their prime. The performances are non-adjudicated; the kids and their families are willing to take time away from their holiday to play jazz simply for the fun of making good music in front of appreciative audiences.
- The program serves as a key catalyst for fundraising to support block grants for participating programs, and scholarships for participating students continuing on to either University or Trade School study.
- We'll be awarding a number of student scholarships and school grants throughout the day!
- You'll be amazed at the quality of this music. Please join us for a very fun day!
A ROTARY COMMUNITY SERVICE
- The Edmonds Jazz Connection is primarily a community event, making a connection between the schools, the community and the professional jazz world. Its a great showcase for the incredible instructors and student talent we have in this area's outstanding music programs.
- Admission is free, donations are strongly encouraged. All proceeds from this annual event go directly to student scholarships and district grants to help further enrich music education in our schools!
- The 50 members of the Rotary Club of Edmonds Daybreakers produce the celebration, which is now in its seventeenth year.
