VOCATIONAL SERVICE

Vocational Service is one of the five Avenues of Service that Rotarians put into practice.  In the Rotary Club of Edmonds Daybreakers we combine Vocational and Youth Services.  Rotary has over a century of service.  In Vocational Service, Rotarians are called to the following:

• Aspire to high ethical standards in their occupation;
• Recognize the worthiness of all useful occupations, and
• Contribute their vocational talents to the problems and needs of society.

These values are characterized in every Rotarian and distinguish a Rotarian as a productive member of their community.  The aspiration to high ethical standards, and recognition of a person’s worth and community contribution must be paramount importance for every Rotarian.  As a Rotarian engages in a business or profession, each Rotarian is expected to the following:

1. CONSIDER their vocation to be another opportunity to serve;
2. BE FAITHFUL to the letter and to the spirit of the ethical codes of their vocation, to the laws of their country, and to the moral standards of their community;
3. DO ALL in their power to dignify their vocation and to promote the highest ethical standards in their chosen vocation;
4. BE FAIR to their employer, employees, associates, competitors, customer, the public, and  all those with whom they have a business or professional relationship;
5. RECOGNIZE the honor and respect due all occupations which are useful to society;
6. OFFER their vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in their community;
7. ADHERE to honesty in their advertising and in all representations to the public concerning their business or profession;
8. NEITHER SEEK from nor grant to a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship.

The Edmonds Daybreaker Rotary clubs has many opportunities to serve in a vocational and youth service role.  Some of these opportunities include the following:

• Conducting Mock Interviews with High School students and other young people.
• Serving as advisors and panelists for Senior Projects.
• Providing incentive awards to students who are excelling in difficult circumstances.
• Recognizing Professional Achievement for someone in the community who has provided benefit to our community in a meaningful way.
• Providing scholarships for students to pursue higher levels of education and vocational training and many more other programs.
• Conducting ethic forums both for fellow Rotarians and students.
• Work with other Rotary Clubs and local service clubs in joint youth programs, projects, and activities.
